Welcome to Raffael's Bistro

Torgasse 3, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland

General Info

Tucked into the charming streets of Zürich’s old town, Raffael's Bistro at Torgasse 3, 8001 Zürich feels like one of those cafés you stumble upon and immediately want to stay a while. The atmosphere is cozy without trying too hard, and the moment you walk in, it has that relaxed café energy that works equally well for a casual dessert stop or a quiet afternoon with a laptop.

The setting itself invites you to slow down. Comfortable seating, warm lighting, and a calm pace make the space ideal if you’re planning to work for a bit or simply enjoy a coffee break. It’s one of those spots where opening your laptop doesn’t feel out of place. Many visitors drop in for a quick espresso, while others settle in for a longer stay, especially because the environment is friendly to people working or reading.

The café menu leans heavily toward desserts, and that’s exactly where Raffael's Bistro shines. One of the highlights is the Vanilla Ice Cream with Warm Chocolate Sauce, which is homemade and served with a rich, velvety topping that melts slowly over the ice cream. It’s simple but incredibly satisfying, especially if you enjoy classic café desserts done well.

Another standout is the Schokolandentote, a chocolate cake that feels indulgent without being overwhelming. If you prefer something with a nutty touch, the Haselnuss Torte delivers a balanced flavor that pairs beautifully with coffee. These cakes aren’t just visually appealing-they taste like they came straight from a thoughtful, well-crafted kitchen.

Of course, no visit to a Zürich café would be complete without a proper coffee, and the espresso here does the job perfectly. It’s bold, aromatic, and a great companion to the desserts on the menu. Even the smaller treats, like the cookie, add a nice touch if you’re looking for a quick snack alongside your drink.

Service at Raffael's Bistro is simple and convenient. Takeout is available if you’d rather enjoy your dessert while strolling through the nearby streets of the city center. The café also accepts debit cards, which makes quick visits easy for locals and travelers alike.

What makes this place memorable is the balance between comfort and quality. It’s a cozy café where the desserts genuinely feel like the stars of the menu. Whether you’re browsing locations for a quiet café in Zürich, checking reviews for a reliable dessert stop, or simply looking for a comfortable place to enjoy good coffee and sweets, Raffael's Bistro naturally fits into the city’s relaxed café culture.

What customers say?

“ Yummy cakes in cosy atmosphere and with disco beats. ”

“ The restaurant has a large patio with umbrellas and a dining room with an oversized open door. The service is very polite, efficient and friendly. Americano coffee was served with small pitchers of hot water and hot milk - a very nice touch. The ice cream is presented in containers that have spinning elements in them (almost like top loading washing machines) that continuesly blend tge ice cream and keep it creamy. Their cakes look very appetizing. ”

“ We have been to the bistro and tried the Schokoladenrahm Torte. The cake is magnificent with the spongy layers with very light cream. The cake’s sweetness is just right (not too sweet like the commercial cakes from other popular bakeries where it’s less sponge and just overly sweet with heavy cream layers)! I want to congratulate the baking team for making a perfect cake - the best so far in Zurich! We went several times to try other cakes and they too were remarkable like the red velvet cake (hard to find in the city). Thank you for giving us the perfect chocolate cake, something we couldn’t find yet in Zurich in 9 years! ”

“ Wow. Literally wow the best home made ice cream. It is not cheap. I would say on the higher side of ‘pricey’ but literally worth every Swiss Franc. Our waitress was friendly , so no complaints on the service side at all. The atmosphere was perfect , we sat outside under umbrellas so we could enjoy the summer beauty but still be protected from the boiling sun. There is indoor seating too. The ice cream was super delicious, honestly the best ice cream I have had to date, and all my summer hiking / day out trips need to have ice cream , so I have had many. I would highly recommend you try this hidden gem , I call it that as it is not on one of the main roads in Zurich. We came across it by chance. They have take away ice cream options too , that might be a more suitable option for you if you are in the middle of a hike or busy sight seeing. ”

“ I went here today and tried a piece of cake, ice cream and a Flammekueche. All were good and I specially liked their cake. It was a great amount of sweetness. I found most of the cake in Zurich far too sweet. And as we loved the cake so much we even ordered our daughter birthday cake from here. The cake looked amazing taste even better and price was very reasonable, they even had a delivery service. Thank you to make my daughter birthday so special. ”

“ Small place with limited seating , very busy all the time, staff is ok ok, limited food options, red velvet cake was nice, chai latte was ok. Attendend missed sugar sachets and glass of water along with latte which is common to get in Zurich Cafes. ”
